Contextual Statement

Mark Robinson – Artist, Learning Technologist and Researcher

Job Title: Learning Technologist, University of the Arts, London
Contact: m.robinson@arts.ac.uk

Biography: After a humanities degree I worked for a number of years with technology in corporate environments, including 8 years as a network manager at an investment bank. During this time I achieved certified Cisco professional status. An evening class in painting prompted a series of career changes, eventually leading to my taking an art degree and Masters degree in fine art. Afterwards I began working part-time at the University of the Arts London, supporting students’ creative practice as a learning technologist and associate lecturer. As I began a teaching qualification at UAL I realised how my interests in teaching & pedagogy, arts & creativity, together with the potential of technology intersected. I moved into a new full-time role in digital learning in the university, part of Academic Strategy, and also began a PhD at Lancaster University department of Educational Research in Technology Enhanced Learning. Underpinning all of this is my belief that technology remains under utilised in creative education and a critical approach to TEL is now needed more than ever. My continuing fine art practice also informs my work, and I believe creative approaches are needed both within and beyond arts education.
